Why might my child or I participate in a seminar?
At Nautilus Behavioral Health, we believe that learning and applying new skills is often needed for growth and improvement. Seminars can be an ideal setting in which participants can receive structured assistance learning and using new strategies for managing a variety of situations, emotions and behaviors. Seminars can be helpful when the issues youth and families are dealing with are very focused. Seminars are also a great way to practice and get feedback on new skills, which can increase the likelihood that participants will be successful when using these strategies in their everyday lives.
What are seminars like?
The seminars offered at Nautilus Behavioral Health are educational in nature and are not group therapy or support groups. As such, they are short-term (1-6 sessions) and involve teaching, discussion and practice. All seminars will include at least some time for participant questions.
Seminars offered at Nautilus Behavioral Health vary in how interactive they are, with some structured as lectures followed by discussion and questions and others being structured as workshops in which participants are actively doing work and getting feedback throughout the session. As such, the amount of personal sharing and self-disclosure required or recommended varies with the nature of the group.
Multi-session seminar series may be "closed," meaning that new participants cannot start after the initial session. This minimizes group disruption and ensures that everyone who is participating receives all of the information. Some attendees may also be engaged in therapy, while others attend a seminar as a stand-alone service.
How do I participate in a seminar or seminar series?
When upcoming seminars are planned and scheduled, they appear on the Calendar page. If you are not already a patient at Nautilus Behavioral Health and would like to participate in one or more of our seminars, please call us at 904-432-3321. If you are leaving a voicemail, please leave a detailed message, including your name, telephone number and the seminar or seminar series in which you are interested. You can alternatively complete the form on our Contact page by clicking here. Please be sure to note the specific upcoming seminar or seminar series in which you would like to enroll. If you are a current therapy patient and are interested in participating in a particular seminar or seminar series, please let your psychologist know and she can help you enroll.
When you receive a callback, you will be asked what seminar(s) interest you and can provide basic background information about your child and your family. Based on that preliminary contact, if you decide that Nautilus Behavioral Health seems like a good match for you, you can register and complete our standard new patient paperwork. This will help us better understand the issues your family is dealing with and your preferences for communication and scheduling.
At Nautilus Behavioral Health, we will do our best to make enrolling in seminars a simple process.
